Pembroke Welsh

Pembroke Welsh CorgiThe Pembroke Welsh Corgi was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1934. The Pembroke breed is believed to be evolved from the Spitz family. They are the 22nd most popular dog breed. Affectionate, alert, and smart, the Pembroke is easy to train– but may try to herd you!

Exercise and Care

Energetic and loyal, the Pembroke needs plenty of exercise but requires little grooming. They adapt well to living on farms and in city homes. Corgis often compete in agility, tracking and herding events, which stems from their history of working as cattle dogs. Their temperament and energy level makes them exceptional family dogs.

Grooming

Weekly grooming and an occasional bath will be sufficient for the Pembroke. Their strong fast-growing nails should be trimmed regularly to avoid splitting. Their medium length coat sheds moderately.

Health

The Pembroke is a relatively healthy breed, although like any breed may have issues like hip dysplasia and eye disease. Due to their low height and large body, corgis should not jump off high furniture. This small breed has a lifespan of 13-15 years.
